Pulau Wayag probably has one of the best views of mountains and beaches that exist around the world. The colors are amazing with blue and, turquoise water, white clouds, green vegetation/jungle and grey & black stones/mountains. We saw photos from other visitors before we left and it looked great, but seeing it in reality was even more amazing. It is a tough climb to reach the top, but it is definitely worth it. The boat ride from the inhabit islands of Raja Ampat is about 2-3 hours, thus you need a complete day for the tour.

A temple was first built at the site around 850 CE by either Rakai Pikatan or Balitung Maha Sambu the Sanjaya king of the Mataram Kingdom. According to Shivagrha inscription that wrote chandrasengkala ”Walung gunung sang wiku” (778 Saka/856 M), the temple was built to honor lord Shiva and the original name of the temple is Shiva-grha (the house of Shiva).
Indeed, some archaeologists propose that the idol of Shiva in the garbhagriha (central chamber) of the main temple is modelled after King Balitung, serving as a depiction of his deified self after death.

On a reasonably clear day, from Tangkuban Perahu, we can see not only the mountain range to the east, with Mt. Bukittunggul as its highest peak (2,209 m), but also two other in a northeasterly direction. The lower and nearer one is Mt. Tampomas (1,684 m) just north of Sumedang some 40 km away.
To the right and about 90 km away is Mt. Ciremai close to Cirebon on the north coast. At 3,078 m, Mt. Ciremai is West Java’s tallest mountain. At the foot of Mt. Tangkuban Perahu we see the Ciater tea plantation covering the rolling hills. Farther to the left are the northern coastal plains of Java, and on an extremely clear day we may even be able to see the Java Sea beyond.
This offshoot of the Bogor Botanical Gardens was founded in 1862 to study mountain flora. The cinchona (a tropical tree belonging to the madder family) was first brought from South America in 1854 and later cultivated here.
The collection now showcases 5,000 montane plants acquired from around the world.
